The presentations, videos, and quiz questions created for this course are based upon the content included in FEMA 480 National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) Floodplain Management Requirements: Study Guide and Desk Reference for Local Officials (February 2005). The course materials are intended as a supplement to the FEMA 480 Guide, not a replacement. Some quiz questions may reference content included in FEMA 480, but not included in the course presentations or videos. As such, reading FEMA 480 in conjunction with reviewing each module is highly recommended. The FEMA 480 Guide can be downloaded at the following link: https://asfpm-library.s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com/General/FEMA_480_Complete_2005.pdf
There are 10 units that follow the FEMA 480 units as part of this course. Each unit consists of a slide presentation, one or more video presentations (except for Unit 6), and a set of 10 quiz questions. In addition, Unit 4 has mapping/FIS questions and Unit 7 has FEMA Elevation Certificate questions. A user may choose to take the quizzes multiple times. Each time the quiz questions are randomly chosen from a larger pool of questions and the results are saved on the website for future reference.
After completing Units 1-10, a user has the ability to take a final exam to test their overall NFIP and floodplain management knowledge. The questions are randomly chosen from the pools of quiz questions and a user may or may not have already received the question as part of the individual unit quizzes.
Unit 11 is a New Jersey-specific module also included as part of this course. This covers New Jersey-specific floodplain management rules and regulations, which are more restrictive than the national NFIP requirements. Since this content is not included in the CFM exam, quiz questions have not been developed for this unit. However, this content is essential for any CFM or Floodplain Administrator practicing in New Jersey.
